Post-Doc « Optofluidic pressure sensor for microfluidic applications using a color changing hydrogel »

Contexte :
L’École Supérieure de Physique et de Chimie Industrielles de la Ville de Paris est à la fois une Grande École d’ingénieurs et un institut de recherche (17 laboratoires) de réputation internationale jouissant d’une forte culture d’excellence scientifique (6 Prix Nobel). L’enseignement et la recherche se situent à la croisée du savoir et du savoir-faire en physique, chimie et biologie.

Ses activités sont :

Being able to precisely measure pressure in microfluidic devices is crucial for lab-on-chip applications, as it is required for flow control, monitoring and fluid characterization. However, such measurements face specific challenges as far as integrability and coupling to liquid phases are concerned and commercially available pressure sensors often lack the precision required. We have developed a chip-integrated liquid-based pressure sensor using a color switching hydrogel and have proven that it can resolve pressures as low as 20mbar with a resolution of 10mbar.

In this project we propose to develop a reliable stand-alone optical pressure sensing unit, to be connected in a non-invasive way to various microfluidic devices. To tune the accessible pressure range and resolution we will address the complex mechanical interactions governed by gel properties, device design and fluid flow. At the same time, the readability of the color response and the sensor calibration will be simplified. A versatile sensor will be developed, of interest to microfluidic companies working in fluid control, biotechnologies or pharmaceutics.

Compétences requises :
 Experimental skills, microfabrication, image treatment, gel fabrication
 Knowledge in physico-chemistry, microfluidics, fluid-structure interactions, mechanics, soft matter (not all of these competences are required simultaneously)
 Interest in industrial applications and tech transfer

PhD in physics, mechanics, material science
