Soft Interfaces in Microfluidics

Droplet-based microfluidics offers new means to miniaturize and automatize biochemical assays. The technology opens up on many applications in biotechnology, for example for single cell screening or molecular diagnostics. As the technology relies on emulsion manipulation in microchannels, it is crucial to understand the dynamics of interfaces in confinement. We design various microfluidic systems to study dynamic processes at interfaces, from the permeation across thin liquid layers to the adsorption of surfactant. We propose a new method to determine surfactant adsorption in microchannel, relevant to understand emulsification at the time- and length- scales relevant to the process. We propose to extend its range of applications to other dynamic processes at interfaces such as interfacial polymerisation.
