UptoParis: 10 PhD positions available !

17/07/2018

Until September 17th 2018, the 2nd call for applications of the UPtoParis PhD programme has been launched. PhD candidates can apply on the dedicated website, and try to get one of the 10 PhD positions available in Physics, Chemistry and/or Biology.

UPtoPARIS is an ambitious international doctoral programme which aims to train young researchers by giving them high-quality knowledge and skills directly linked to the needs of the European and international industry and market.

This programme of ESPCI Paris offers a unique environment to highly selected PhD students expected to produce top-level scientific research ready to be translated into technical and societal innovations. This will be achieved by promoting interdisciplinary fundamental research, by connecting it with industry through the wide intersectorial network of ESPCI Paris partners, and by stimulating the development of high-technology start-up companies. In addition to a research experience, it offers students an international training and a dedicated Career development training programme.

Based on interdisciplinarity (biology, chemistry, physics), internationality and intersectoriality, the « 3i’s », UPtoPARIS is a major project for ESPCI in terms of recruitment of excellent international researchers and of public-private partnerships. It is in line with the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA), which encourages transnational, intersectorial and interdisciplinary mobility of talented foreign researchers. Thanks to the European Commission’s support, the project funds 30 fellowships in 3 calls (10 PhD students/call). The 2nd call for applications has just been launched on the UPtoPARIS website, where international candidates may apply until September 17th 2018.

Coming from all parts of the world, the first 10 UPtoPARIS selected candidates will arrive in September at ESPCI to begin their PhD. Rositsa Yancheva and Virginie Cardoso from the UPtoPARIS management team share their experience of the 1st call’s application procedure:

«The result of the 1st call is beyond our expectations: 10 excellent international candidates have been recruited over more than 100 initial candidates from 34 countries. They will now benefit from our programme, based on a combination of research activities and innovative and competitive supervising, mentoring and career planning. All along the application procedure, we have been impressed by the skills and the strong motivation of the candidates. This impression has also been confirmed by the PhD supervisors, the Joint research units directors and the other ESPCI and external experts, who had the opportunity to evaluate and meet the applicants. We sincerely hope that the outcome of the 2nd call for applications will turn out to be as fruitful as the first one.»
