Platforms

Welcome to the ESPCI Paris platforms page – a comprehensive guide to the technical and scientific facilities available.

The mechanical platform, shared by two institutions (ESPCI Paris PSL and Chimie-ParisTECH PSL), aims to help researchers design and build original experimental devices. It is headed by Ludovic Olanier, who coordinates its operations and collaborations.

The platform has a 5-axis machining centre, a multi-axis digital lathe, a CO2 laser cutter, several 3D printers and a micro-milling machine. The platform works in collaboration with the IPGG teams and a self-service area is available to researchers who wish to use it (upon request).

The Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) platform is shared by ESPCI Paris PSL and IPGG. It is managed by Bruno Bresson, who provides training, technical support and scientific advice. It is open to start-ups, companies, research institutes and universities subject to a fee.

This platform consists of two Thermofisher SEMs, the Magellan 400, dedicated to high-resolution measurements, and the Quattro S, which can perform measurements in high vacuum as well as in degraded vacuum and in environments with variable water vapour pressure (up to saturated vapour pressure) thanks to a Peltier module. The SEMs are equipped with several detectors, an Everhart-Thornley ETD secondary electron detector, an LVD detector dedicated to degraded vacuum (water vapour) detection, a DBS detector, a directional backscattered electron detector, a STEM 3 detector dedicated to transmission imaging, a retractable and segmented detector (Bright Field, Dark Field and High Angle Dark Field) detector, and a WetSTEM detector with an integrated Peltier stage that allows transmission detection in a temperature-controlled environment. In addition, the Quattro is also equipped with an EDS detector for chemical analysis.
