Glassy physics : from liquids to living cells

The liquid-to-glass transition is a ubiquitous yet highly complex phenomenon, which still lacks a universal physical understanding. In this talk I will share some recent progress on the development and application of so-called Generalized Mode-Coupling Theory—a framework that aims to predict glassy dynamics purely from first principles. I will demonstrate that the theory can be applied not only to ordinary glass-forming materials, but also to more complex systems such as dense collectives of living cells.
