Formulation AI

Chemical formulations are complex mixtures of chemicals that perform one or more functions. Examples range from consumer products, such as shampoo, to precursors in manufacturing, such as high-performance coatings. These formulations are composed of different classes of chemicals, such as solvents, surfactants, and thickeners, each playing a defined function. In the chemical industry, formulations require constant innovation under pressures of cost, performance, and sustainability, but developing the next generation of products can be highly inefficient due to the number of candidate molecules and the complexity of their interactions. Ansatz AI is a startup from Carnegie Mellon University that is developing a suite of machine learning tools for the design and optimization of chemical formulations as well as their molecular constituents based on small, experimental datasets. Having operated primarily as a consultancy since its founding in 2018, Ansatz AI is now creating custom software to allow users to build sophisticated machine learning models of chemical technologies to be used as a design tool to accelerate innovation.
