PRESENTATION OF ESPCI PARIS

ESPCI Paris (Ecole supérieure de Physique et de chimie industrielles de la ville de Paris) is a public institution with the status of autonomous management from the City of Paris.

Created in 1882, ESPCI Paris trains engineers through experimental practice and teaching closely linked to research. Distinguished by 6 Nobel laureates in its history and welcoming 600 researchers in 10 research units, the school combines research excellence and innovation. Recruiting mainly through a joint competition X / ESPCI Paris / Ecoles Normales supérieures, it welcomes 90 student-engineers every year.

The ambition of ESPCI Paris is to train engineers capable of responding to the needs of a constantly changing society and adapting to it. The decompartmentalization between the scientific disciplines, physics, chemistry and biology, between teaching, research and innovation, between the scientific world and the economic world, between fundamental and applied research, allows as to train engineers and creative researchers able to grasp differently the issues of our society.

Firmly focused on our international standing, ESPCI has been placed for the last ten years among the best French engineering schools in the Shanghai ranking (first school in the Shanghai ranking of 2017).

ESPCI fosters an entrepreneurial culture combined with innovation favoring the creation of start-ups and the filing of patents.

ESPCI is engaged in a major renovation program to be completed by 2023 (€ 175m, 34000m2).

ESPCI Paris is a model of excellence and a founding member of PSL (Paris Sciences & Lettres) and ParisTech.

MISSIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Director General, within the framework of the powers delegated by the Chair of the Board of Directors, ensures the direction and management of the institution drawing on the support of the management team.
• He/she defines the strategic orientations of ESPCI Paris in terms of training, research and innovation.
• He/she implements the project of ESPCI Paris with the management team, in close connection with the City of Paris and inscribes its action within the framework of the general policy of the University Paris Sciences et Lettres (PSL) .
• He/she guarantees the quality of the training of engineering students and promotes the teaching of Master and doctoral training.
• He/she ensures the management of the establishment and exercises his authority over all the staff of ESPCI Paris.
• He/she guarantees the proper conduct of the renovation project of ESPCI Paris by the technical teams and the general secretariat. He/she promotes ESPCI Paris abroad.
• He/she ensures the attractiveness of ESPCI Paris through a high-level scientific recruitment policy.
• He/she unites the various components of the school (students, teachers, research units, support functions) around the strategic project of the school.

REQUIRED PROFILE

Recognized scientist of the international scientific community or the industrial world, he/she will mobilize staff and students around the strategic directions of the institution and adhere the preferred partners of ESPCI to major decisions.

The success of the future Director General of ESPCI will depend on his/her ability to hold positions of high responsibility and to have a thorough knowledge of the organization and functioning of higher education and research.
Responsible for training, research and innovation, his/her strategic vision, strength of conviction and charisma will be valuable assets in promoting the activities of the school and developing awareness of ESPCI Paris to all audiences (students, companies, universities, institutions ...) on the national and international level.

RECRUITMENT METHODS

Deadline for submission of applications : May 15, 2018
Applications will include a curriculum vitae, a cover letter with a statement of intent in which candidates will detail their vision of the position (3 to 5 pages maximum) and 3 letters of recommendation.

REMUNERATION

The remuneration package includes the salary and a service allowance.
