International Scientific Comittee

Since 2007, ESPCI Paris – PSL has been supported by an International Scientific Comittee comprising leading figures from the scientific and industrial communities. This independent body provides an outside, forward-looking perspective on the school’s educational and research activities.

The Role of the International Scientific Comittee

Each year, the International Scientific Comitteesubmits to the Board of Directors a written analysis of the institution’s teaching and research activities, along with proposals for future direction.

His work contributes in particular to:

  • analyze the school’s science policy;
  • support the evolution of its educational policies;
  • identify major changes in research and innovation;
  • inform the institution’s strategic decisions;
  • strengthen the international reputation of ESPCI Paris – PSL.

Members of the International Scientific Comittee are appointed for a six-year term. Half of the council is renewed every three years.

The President

Steven Chu

Steven Chu is a professor of physics and molecular and cellular physiology at Stanford University.

A recipient of the 1997 Nobel Prize in Physics, he also served as U.S. Secretary of Energy.

Monica Olvera de la Cruz

Professor of Materials Science and Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical and Biological Engineering, Physics, and Astronomy at Northwestern University.

Andrew Millis

Co-director of the Center for Computational Quantum Physics at the Flatiron Institute and professor of physics at Columbia University.

Lakshminarayanan Mahadevan

Professor of physics, applied mathematics, and organismic and evolutionary biology at Harvard University.

Allard Mosk

Professor of physics at the Debye Institute for Nanomaterials Science at Utrecht University.

Brent Sumerlin

Professor of Chemistry at the University of Florida.

Claire Wyart

Biophysicist and neurobiologist, research director at Inserm and director of the Brain Institute.

Patrick Maestro

Former Chief Scientific Officer at Solvay and member of the French Academy of Technologies.

Yves Bréchet

Member of the Academy of Sciences and Chief Scientific Officer at Saint-Gobain.

Aline Criton

Director of Clinical and Regulatory Affairs at Withings; holds a Ph.D. in medical physics.
